Evokar is built around the idea of the karigar as the central pivot. We are makers who understand the world through touch and making becomes our language and rhythm. Presently we work primarily with metal and so the process of making is very material specific - cutting, bending, beating, welding, brazing, buffing. The sounds and smells are also very material specific.
The material that we work with has created a very specific and intense sensory environment which decides to a large extent what we make. And so the material itself becomes a collaborator in the thinking and the creating. In time we will make in other materials, we are already experimenting with veneers and ceramics and look forward to seeing and exploring those material entanglements.
The present collection emerged from 2 thoughts converging after having read an article about unexpected life at great depths in the ocean. At these depths the pressure is extreme and there is absolutely no sunlight penetration. In this environment creatures create their own light though a chemical process.
The 2 thoughts were the idea of light emitting objects and this parallel reality we know so little about. Dynamic and thriving eco system that we could not have imagined. This convergence led to making the ‘Abyss’ collection. This is an evolving collection as we further deep dive in this unknown and also synthesize this data into fascinating objects that let us wonder and wander.
