All of my work begins on the wheel and is then altered, hand built and combined. By using these different techniques in my practice, I am free to explore form, composition and balance, allowing structure and spontaneity to coexist. I work primarily in stoneware, each piece finished with underglazes to achieve a layered, painterly surface.
My most recent series, Botanically Incorrect, draws inspiration from the natural world without attempting to replicate it exactly. Influenced by the lush, imaginative landscapes of Henri Rousseau, the work embraces interpretation over realism. Lacking a natural green thumb myself, but deeply drawn to the presence of greenery in interior spaces, I began creating ceramic plants as a way to explore nature through my own material language.
