introduction

The Frutti Di Mare collection is inspired by the flora like creatures found in the ocean. In this series I took my queue from the organic shapes found in the sponges, grasses and corals, that move with the currents, waves and tides. I want them to convey rhythm and movement in shapes that are more abstract in form.

All forms are built in stoneware using the pinch and coil method and then given their 'movement' by adding surface texture. A clear glaze is added to the inside or to the rim of the form for functionality and or contrast to the exterior.

reflection

My pieces are an extension of myself, when building it is meditative and rhythmical and quiet; just me with my thoughts in dialogue with the clay, as the form develops in my hands. My process, the pinch and coil method is as old as time and will remain long after I am gone which is both humbling and awesome.

There is something deeply grounding about the pinch and coil method; it forces a slow, intentional pace that modern life rarely allows. By building in that quiet, rhythmic space, you aren’t just shaping clay—you’re recording your own presence into a medium, and that "dialogue with the clay" creates a unique energy, a connection as it is passed from hand to hand.
