introduction

Tilfi’s Metal art and collectibles emerge from a long-standing engagement with the visual and symbolic vocabulary of Banarasi textiles, making their translation into sculptural form a natural progression rather than a departure. Motifs inspired by Indian mythology and historically woven in silk: flora, fauna, and rhythmic terrains, are reinterpreted in hand-worked brass through the repoussé metalwork tradition, allowing a familiar language to assume new dimensionality.

Animal figures and foliage emerge in measured relief, their articulation governed by calibrated pressure and material resistance. The lamps oscillate between undulating surfaces that suggest movement and flatter planes that anchor utility, creating a controlled interplay between image and use. Additionally, Brass is employed for its capacity to register fine detail while maintaining structural clarity over time. Within this framework, the making draws on inherited craft knowledge, extending Tilfi’s textile legacy into a contemporary sculptural idiom where narrative and material remain in measured balance. Each object is a fragment of Banaras, where mastery is reinterpreted, and heritage moves forward.

reflection

Within Tilfi’s design objects, each form is conceived as a self-contained world. Drawing from the creation myths that define Banaras’ ancient origins, our sculptures become a vessel of memory and devotion. They are not arranged as spectacle, but as parallel narratives held within a single object. Placed within lived spaces, the sculptural creations function as everyday objects while carrying layers of cultural reference and material history. What is seen operates alongside what is known or felt, allowing meaning to emerge gradually through use and familiarity. Touch carries knowledge through the hand, where making is guided by material understanding and experience, where repeated gestures become acts of care.

This simultaneous visibility and interiority reflects the idea of worlds unfolding alongside one another, often unnoticed. Across the presentation, ‘Sonder’ is articulated through coexistence: objects that carry layered complexity, accessible through use and proximity.
