Largely self taught, Archana Ramaswamy, originally a performer with International career in dance and theatre, is intrigued by clay’s ability to be at once strong and delicate. Drawn to the natural world, she sculpts pieces with layers, crevices, holes and imperfections often using foraged clay, rocks, ash, chalk, glass etc. resulting in strong forms that reveal their fragility only on close, intimate introspection... just like most human beings!
As someone who lives between various cities/countries, Archana finds prospecting clay and working with other foraged materials profound and literally grounding; establishing a direct relationship with the land and its materials, making it visceral, elemental, personal, and intimate.
