Inspired by the traditional dolu of Karnataka, this pair of forms reimagines the instrument through a sculptural rhythm. Two complementing silhouettes rest on domical bases, with an opening at the top that becomes a vase. Crafted in Sandur pottery techniques and finished with hand woven banana-fibre rope from Karnataka.
For us, sonder is the quiet recognition that every person carries a world within them shaped by their hands that guide their daily life. As designers working closely with craft communities, this idea is at the heart of our practice. Each technique we learn, each fibre we touch, and each form we build is connected to someone’s experience an artisan’s thought, a community’s way of adapting to change, a story passed down through time.
Our work is a way of honouring these traditional materials and techniques, where we try to bring those stories into a new space without losing their essence. The object we create are small translations of such moments we have encountered.
