introduction

Parts to Whole is produced through a process of collecting, compressing, and reassembling discarded leather scraps into dense, tactile surfaces. Fragments are layered and fractured by hand, then tightly packed into wooden shadow boxes, allowing pressure and containment to define form. Variations in colour, grain, and thickness are preserved rather than homogenized, emphasizing difference within repetition. Each unit is constructed as an independent object, complete in itself, yet conceived in relation to the others through scale, rhythm, and tonal shifts. The making process draws from slow, artisanal methods and material reuse, positioning leather waste as a site of potential rather than excess. When viewed together, the four works visually interlock, suggesting a larger, implied composition—one that emerges through accumulation, dialogue, and the quiet negotiation between part and whole.
